Senior IAS officer from Assam accused for RS.121 Crore Scam

Recently we have heard many corrupted officials of the state are being arrested by the the Chief minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC). Recently, Chohan Doley , A senior IAS officer from Assam is accused for Rs.121crore scam. The case pertains to 2013 and 2017, during which Chohan Doley served as labour commissioner twice. Right now he is serving as secretary of panchayat and rural development. He is arrrested by the Chief minister’s Special Vigilance Cell for alleged misappropriation of funds estimated at Rs 121 crore in printing works of the state labour department, as per the police official.

“We arrested Doley for misappropriation of funds under the Vigilance Case No 9/2017. The scam is estimated at Rs 121 crore and it took place from 2013 to 2017,” SVC Khanindra Kumar Choudhury told PTI in Guwahati.

Further Mr.Choudhury added that-
“Doley was admitted in Down Town Hospital. We picked him up from there, brought him to our office and arrested him. We will produce him before the court”.

Asper reports, the case is related to granting contracts to a private firm for printing leaflets, folders and other such materials of the labour department during the said period.

The owner of the firm Piyangshu Bairagi has already been arrested by the police.

When asked about more people connected to this scam Mr.Choudhury said, “Further investigation is on. At this point of time, we cannot say anything else.”

This acts are not a new thing to Assam. The condition of Assam is not that good comparing to other states because of such corrupted officials. Don’t you think the Goverment must impose some strong laws and punishment for such acts??
