Mainstream Bollywood cinema has dominated the filmmaking scenario of India since the pre-Independence era and there were only a few instances when regional cinema came at par with those giants. Although regional films are making their presence felt they still have a long way to go. Assamese filmmaker and actor Kenny Basumatary’s recent success is surely a blissful episode in Assamese cinema.

Kenny Deori Basumatary the famed director and actor of the cult movie series Local Kung Fu is all set to work in a Bollywood movie Raag Desh:Birth Of A Nation directed by Tingmanshu Dhulia.
Dhulia is a renowned Bollywood director, actor and screenwriter famous for his works in Paan Singh Tomar, Gangs of Wasseypur, Saheb Biwi aur Gangster, Haasil, Bullet Raja, Dil Se etc. This is not the first time Kenny Basumatary is working in a Bollywood project, earlier he has acted in films like Shanghai, Mary Kom, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Luv Ka The End.
The movie will explore the story of three officers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA) who were court-martialled by British authorities at the Red Fort trials of 1945. The British called the INA freedom fighters and Japanese ally soldiers and a trial was held at the Red Fort. The periodic drama brings to life that epic trial which paved the way for Indian Independence and those meteoric times.
Bollywood actors Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Mohit Marwah will play the lead roles of the film respectively. An enthusiastic Kenny declared this news through his facebook profile and his eagerness to act in such a remarkable movie.
